PORCINI & CANDY CAP SINGLE MALT WHISKY 🍄🍄

The second batch of the Porcini & Candy Cap mushroom is back! Meant to be a single batch whisky, we decided to craft a second batch after the it won the Product Innovation Award at the Canadian Artisan Spirit Competition (CASC). Porcini and candy cap mushrooms are now in season in BC and the western coast just across the boarder. David Xiao of Oyster & King sourced the perfect combination of porcini and candy cap mushrooms again for this whisky.

The nose gives you a mossy meadow, sweet earth, and savoury maple. The rich mouthfeel includes hints of browned butter, toasted almonds, burnt caramel, ending with a long, sweet, mushroom umami finish.

Enjoy neat, on ice or in an autumn Old Fashioned.

A L-OAK-AL SMOKE

SMOKE & OAK: GARRYANA OAK WHISKY 🌳💨🥃

We are excited to announce our Garryana Oak Whisky, the second release in our Smoke & Oak series in conjunction with BC Distilled. This whisky includes malt that has been smoked with Garry wood, the only oak species native to BC and has been aged for four years in once-used American White Oak barrels.

This Smoke & Oak has a tobacco-style smoke on the nose and a rich, buttery mouthfeel. The flavour is reminiscent of having smores by a campfire with burnt brown sugar sweetness and graham cracker biscuits. Sarsaparilla, sassafras, mace and cocoa powder also come through to end in a nice, crisp finish.

BOMBER BREWING IPA AND DOUBLE IPA WHISKIES🍻

Our Bomber Brewing IPA whiskies are the third and fourth whiskies in our Community collaboration whisky series. Odd Society teamed up with Bomber Brewing, located just a few blocks away in East Van.

The mash is loosely based on their Pacific Northwest IPA. The hops used were Centennial, Chinook, and Cascade hops. For the double IPA, we put Cashmere hops in the gin basket and ran the final spirits vapours through the hops to extract more flavours.

The whiskies are incredibly unique with lots of tropical fruit like mango, pineapple, papaya, on the nose as well as the palate, with lingering pleasing hoppy bitter notes. The Double IPA is definitely more of a flavor bomb, oily and rich, almost gin-like. Try both side by side to choose your favourite.

PORT-BARREL-AGED WALLFLOWER GIN 🌾 🌿 🍇

The second batch of Port-Barrel-Aged Wallflower Gin is here! The gin is rested in freshly emptied port barrels from Unsworth and Burrowing Owl Wineries for up to 2 years. Each barrel created its own special characteristics and we then combined the spirits for a unique and delicious blend.

The gin begins with notes of prune and stewed fruit with underlying strawberry and cherry flavours. There is also candied citrus with dried cranberries and raisin flavours reminiscent of fruit leather.  This gin is perfect both for sipping on its own or mixed in an enticing cocktail.

OUR GOOD FRIEND ROBBIE IS BACK!

ROBBIE BURNS CANADIAN WHISKY – SECOND RELEASE  🥃 ✍️

This weekend we are releasing our second whisky in honor of Robbie Burns. Scotland’s national poet is Known the world over for his work which centered on universal themes such as love and nature.

The whisky was aged for five years in once-used, American white oak, ex-rye barrels. This deliciously light, easy sipping dram is bright, smoky, and peaty with caramelized honey and straw on the nose. The palate has rich honey notes, chewy nut brittle and a mineral, briny salinity that is slightly spicy. The whisky ends with a clean woodfire smoke finish. A beautiful tribute to an enduring master of words.

WHISKY THAT ‘RAUCHS’ 🤘

Rauch Malt is the first whisky to be released in Odd Society’s new ‘Smoke & Oak’ series. Just like in peated whiskies the malt in this series is dried with smoke. Rather than using peat different woods are burned to impart unique flavours onto the whisky. German malt called ‘Rauch’ (beechwood smoked) gives this particular whisky just a hint of smokey richness, and then the whisky is aged for four years in American white oak.

The Rauch Malt whisky is slightly fruity-sweet off the hop, and finishes with a lovely dry, briny, and delicate smokiness. It’s the perfect summertime whisky!

ROBBIE BURNS SINGLE-BARREL WHISKY

Odd Society Spirits is celebrating the life of Scottish poet Robert Burns in style with a limited edition single malt whisky release!

On Thursday, January 19, a special single barrel release is coming from Odd Society Spirits in honour of Robbie Burns Day (Jan. 25). While inspecting and tasting their aging whiskies, distillers Gordon Glanz and Joel McNichol came upon a perfect single barrel. Aged for 5.5 years in ex-bourbon and American white oak barrels, this single malt is just right on its own—blending this whisky with another barrel would just upset the balance.

Odd Society Spirits Robbie Burns Canadian Whisky is the distillery’s first ever single barrel release, and its first five-year-old whisky. This unicorn batch hits all the right notes of dark honey, leather, and lemony citrus, with a whiff of smoke imparted from the addition of Scottish peat in the finishing process.

Packaged in 750 mL bottles at 46% ABV, and priced at $76, Odd Society Spirits Robbie Burns Canadian Whisky is a distillery exclusive, and will be available online, and at the tasting lounge and bottle shop (1725 Powell Street), starting at 3pm on Thursday, January 19.

Odd Society + Wild Thing Mushroom Whisky

Odd Society Spirits + Wild Thing Community Collaboration Porcini & Candy Cap Mushroom Single Malt Whisky

 

Odd Society is launching a new whisky series called ‘Community Collaborations’. We’ve once again enlisted Shwa Keirstead and David Arias to create a beautiful label depicting these convivial adventures. As with previous collaborations, we explore new flavour combinations with friends and neighbors.

Our first release is a porcini & candy cap mushroom single malt whisky made in collaboration with Wild Thing Snack Bar. In celebration of the opening of Wild Thing’s second location (2420 Main St.), and a shared love of mushrooms, Odd Society’s Joel McNichol and Fraser Pick teamed up with friends Todd Graham and Kody Abrams of Wild Thing to produce a Porcini and Candy Cap Mushroom Single Malt Whisky using mushrooms sourced by David Xiao of Oyster & King.

 

On the nose, the whisky presents rich notes of butter and dark brown sugar. The first sip reveals a captivating viscosity and a hint of praline pecans balanced with a subtle savoury and woodsy undertone that is further unearthed in its lingering finish. It’s seriously delicious.

Odd Society Spirits + Wild Thing Community Collaboration Porcini & Candy Cap Mushroom Single Malt Whisky will be on the Wild Thing and Odd Society cocktail menus starting Thursday, November 3.

Bottles will also be available at the distillery and select liquor stores starting Thursday, November 3. Packaged in 375 ml bottles and priced at $45, there will be a limit of 2 bottles per person at the distillery. Liquor store prices will vary.

This limited release will be available through our online store shortly after, starting Sunday, November 6.

ELDERFLOWER IS BACK FOR SUMMER

Elderflower harvest is one of the most magical times of year for us here at the distillery. And, this year is twice as good because we received flowers from the Fraser Valley and Vancouver Island. Our first batch of Elderflower Liqueur is hitting shelves across BC on Thursday, June 30, and our online bottle shop on Sunday, July 3.
